Shaggy

2008 - Synthetic hair, hair curlers, stainless steel

I made this enormous wig as a comment on Indonesian hair culture. The “shaggy haircut” is very trendy and still dominates most female hair models in rural Java. This creates a uniform look. Hair (both covered and uncovered) is an important part of our identity and much time is spent in beauty salons.

‘Shaggy’ is part of the collection of the Singapore Art  Museum.
