A military mission is not only about sending troops to war but also about food and medicine. “Who’s the Hunter? Who’s the Killer? Who’s the Feeder? Who’s the Healer?” are the underlying questions of the work ‘The Warrior, The Healer, The Feeder’. It was produced during the beginning of the Iraq war. At the same time, the Indonesian military entered the province of Aceh to “finish off” the independence movement. It represents humankind’s inevitable connection with killing, healing and feeding.
The “warrior” cloak is made of sixteen military costumes that were once worn by Indonesian soldiers. I cut the costumes into strings and mixed them with seaweed to create a new warrior cloak. The lower part, made of seaweed, hangs into a pan that is boiled and subsequently served to the audience as miso soup. The “feeder” consists of squid and squid soup, while the “healer” is made up of Chinese and Indonesian traditional medicine, cooked into the Indonesian medicinal drink jamu.
