Red Hot Body Burden

Ceramics, leather, cords

2011

Clothing and (visible skin parts) can be seen as an instrument to communicate to the surrounding world and at the same time we can interpret clothing as an instrument for seclusion from the surrounding world. It is a vehicle for all sorts of messages on one side and on the other side our skin and other layers - is protecting us from invaders. I am interested in the idea of appearance and absence, which parts of the body show us some ones personality and which parts don’t. With this work I tried to strip ‘identity’ from a person, in order to create an anonymous body. Commenting on the current trend of styling, beauty and body cult, I decided to make body extensions, because by multiplying specifically the mouth, hands and feet, the specific personal character disappears.
