I am Ethnic I, II

two costumes goat leather, fiberglass, thread, bowl

2000

These two costumes are each made out of two goat skins. In Javanese Moslem tradition, when celebrating the birth of a new born child, one goat is slaughtered for a daughter and two goats are slaughtered for a son. One goatskin is not enough to cover an adult body, thus requiring two skins to cover a person. >> Collection: ‘I am Ethnic I' Singapore Art Museum
