Coat of the Declined

Enamel plates, thread, leather, cow teeth

I look at history and how this is reflected in our bodies. We carry history in us. I interpret the body for this work as an ancestral home, carrying the layers of the present and the past. Generations born before 1970, throughout the Indonesian archipelago - living in cities, as well as in villages, having the experiences of eating from enamel plates. Those generations carry this specific memory of a declining culture. Exhibited at Galeri Semarang, Semarang, 2012
