As an urban citizen, our encounter with nature is often reduced to a designed and manicured version of the real thing. Camouflage fabrics for example have become very trendy. In this work, I combined the artificial and real, commenting on the demand of the fashion industry. The camouflage outfits in ‘This Shirt Fits Us All’ carry photographic images of the backs of Papua women living in the Balim Valley, whom I visited in 2007. They truly live in the midst of nature. The design of the dresses is inspired by how these women carry their bags, hanging from their heads.
