Bark cloth has been used in Indonesia for centuries as body coverings, sarongs and blankets. This blanket is created as a patchwork, combining the measurement of space between rice plants (21 – 23 cm) and different patterns of the Javanese calendar, used for calculating the most fertile days for planting and harvesting. In and on the blanket I invite three persons to talk about different issues related to agriculture. Gispa Ferdinanda Warijo shares her personal experiences on the changes from sago to rice and ethno feminism. Zuhdi Sang tells about his research in Merauke and the impact of deforestation and food estates. Idha Saraswati will give us an inside on rice production, digitalisation and ‘smart farming’. Each time this blanket travels to another place or country, I will invite three people to talk about issues in relation to farming and food production.
