Running Chicken is about moving, whether moving towards something or away from something in order to create distance between our daily reality and ourselves. We long for an opportunity to discover something unknown, but also the opportunity to turn around and look back.
Central to being an artist is knowing how to take a distance. Distance gives the artist a set of fresh eyes to explore the things that have become too commonplace to notice, and distance breaks the spell of being too sensitized and complacent about our surroundings. By looking at society from a distance, we hope to understand something new, identify the strange and uncanny, and reflect. New awareness will lead us towards new positions and new paths.
I look at the bond between humans and animals, power relations, how we are similar, and live with them and ideas of obedience and disobedience.
