My installation ‘Rubber Time II’ (2003) was used as a starting point by theatre director Tajudin Yudi and Teater Garasi. Through collaboration we developed this into the dance/ theatre piece ‘Je.ja.lan’.
‘Je.ja.lan’ confronts the audience with Indonesian street scenes, showing the reality of public and personal space in urban life. It highlights the borders that separate space, such as fences and protective walls, but also the grey zones where borders are fluid and the public and private blend into one.
