‘I am ethnic I’ and ‘I am ethnic II’ consist of two costumes. Each costume is made up of two goat skins. In Javanese-Muslim tradition, when celebrating the birth of a newborn child, one goat is slaughtered for a daughter and two goats are slaughtered for a son.
The ritual wishes the newborn a prosperous life growing into an adult. I connected the physical goat skins with the proportions of an adult and concluded that it requires two goat skins to cover one person.
