Coat of the Declined

2012 - Enamel plates, thread, leather, cow teeth

I look at history and how this is reflected in our bodies. We carry history in us. I interpret the body for this work as an ancestral home, carrying the layers of the present and the past. Generations born before 1970 – throughout the Indonesian archipelago – in cities, as well as in villages, having the experiences of eating from enamel plates. Those generations carry this specific memory of a declining culture.
